Built Differently // Law Squared’s Next Chapter

Law Squared CEO, Claire Sundin, shares a message on the firm’s next chapter, built on ten years of challenging the traditional legal model.

It’s hard to believe I am already six months into my role as CEO of Law Squared.

It has been an incredibly rewarding start to the year, with real momentum across the firm. A clear highlight has been the conversations, meeting with many of you across our client, partner and Law Squared community, and hearing what your businesses are navigating right now.

One thing is very clear to me: the legal industry is changing faster than anyone expected. Clients feel it. Lawyers feel it. Firms definitely feel it.

Many of these conversations have reinforced my own experience working in-house: businesses want and need legal support that is practical, helps them make the right decisions and keeps them moving forward.

That sounds simple. But historically, the legal industry hasn’t always been built that way.

Law Squared was.

Over the past decade, Law Squared has intentionally challenged the traditional legal model. No billable hours. Less hierarchy. More transparency. A focus on outcomes and relationships, rather than time recording.

What has been particularly interesting over the past six months is seeing how relevant our model has become in a world where AI and technology are rapidly reshaping legal delivery. While much of the profession is still grappling with what AI means for traditional law firm economics, Law Squared was built differently from the start. We were never built to protect old ways of working, which means we can stay focused on improving the quality, experience and outcomes we deliver for our clients.

Practically, that means we are rethinking workflows, adopting new technologies, and helping our lawyers build the skills they’ll need for the future.  The recent appointment of Alex Vulkanovski as Head of Legal Operations & Innovation reflects that focus, strengthening how we deliver legal work that is smarter, more scalable and better aligned to the evolving needs of our clients.

As we look ahead, our focus remains simple: continue improving, challenging ourselves, and delivering legal support in a way that genuinely works for our clients and our people. And in turn, help to reshape the legal industry, so we leave it in a better place than we found it.

Thank you for the trust you continue to place in us and for such a warm welcome to this role.
