Dan is a seasoned employment lawyer who, prior to working for Law Squared, worked with several reputable law firms specialising in employment law. His work with a broad portfolio of clients, from government, manufacturing, child safety and professional services (to name a few) means he understands the nuances of various industries and how they interact with the employment relationship. This experience allows him to provide practical and sensible solutions to his clients.
Dan specialises in acting for employers throughout the employment life cycle, from recruitment to separation, and onwards to litigation if necessary. Unique for a solicitor, Dan has extensive experience in advocacy and has appeared unassisted in hearings before the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, and the Federal Circuit and Family Court. That said, his personal preference is to explore commercial avenues of resolving litigious disputes first, to achieve practical outcomes for clients and allow them to focus on what they do best and reduce the emotional strain on clients that litigation often causes. After all, no client has ever said to Dan they have enjoyed the litigation process.
One of Dan’s personal interests is contributing towards diversity in the legal profession, and to this end, he is a member of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association working with other like-minded members and associates of the profession. He finds strength in his cultural background as a Chinese-Australian and continues to practice his Mandarin so that he is able to better assist clients and provide employment law advice where English is their second language.
Beyond the law and outside of work, Dan can usually be found exploring the world with his partner Sijin and son Xavier. Otherwise, you might find him dusting off some vinyl records, or at the firing range preparing for his next target shooting competition.
